BIRD HUNTER – ENGLISH COKER SPANIEL

FCI Standard No. 5 dated 08.10.2012 English Cocker Spaniel Group 8 Retrievers, Spaniels and Water Dogs Section 2 Spaniels English Cocker Spaniel – an active and moving dog, with a compact body of equal length and height, refers to a group of medium-sized rocks. The desired parameters of the animal are in the range: for dogs, height 39–41 cm; the growth of bitches – 38–39 cm; weight from 13 to 14.5 kg. The head is noble and not too coarse – with strong jaws; large but not bulging eyes of dark shades and long ears that reach the nose. The chest is strong, but not square. Paws are very strong, with large pads and a wide, slightly disproportionate “foot”. The tail seems to flow out of the body – just below the line of the back: it can be either a natural size or cropped. The coat is of medium length, silky, with a large and light “wave”, but without curly hair. English Cocker Spaniel: breed description allows for almost any color except white and blue. There is a certain division into the working type and representative. The former are smaller in size and with less thick coat. Cocker Spaniel English and American: the difference between them is obvious for an experienced dog handler. The Englishman, unlike the American, has a shorter coat of medium length. The growth of the first is 1-3 centimeters more, the back line is flat, in contrast to the higher front part of the American cocker. Also, the snub-nosed line of the muzzle is characteristic of the Americans. Temperament also varies – in the English counterpart, he is more balanced. Character, abilities, skills Spaniel – the embodiment of goodwill and convivial disposition. An easy-going, active and obedient dog that quickly understands what is expected of it. Cocker usually has no problems with training and accepting family members. Characteristics of the breed English Cocker Spaniel does not contain aggression towards other dogs, but the cat may well become prey. It’s not necessary to start a cocker for hunters; an ordinary loving person will come up who takes care of the spaniel. The only caveat – the dog still needs an intensive walk: animals love to wear sticks or balls, frolic with friends and swim. The working qualities of the dog are also on top. They are enthusiastic hunters who quickly seek out the game with the help of an over-sharp sense of smell. And then they are happy to deliver the padded carcass to their owner. In an urban environment, this developed skill needs to be contained. The English cocker is distrustful of strangers, and announces an invasion with a loud bark. Spaniel, in general, is a talkative breed: they can howl alone and sing along to musical instruments. The main pros and cons. The advantages of the breed include: compact size; noble and diverse appearance; genuine friendliness and focus on the person; easy learning good hunting qualities; distrust of strangers; lack of aggression towards people and dogs; unpretentiousness in leaving and feeding; the opportunity to raise a pet for a beginner.
