Whatever the dog, of any size and breed, it is imperative to train obedience teams. In any case, the dog must obey his master implicitly. The size of the dog is nothing to do with; you should not think that if the dog is small, then it should not or should not be taught what large dogs usually teach. Although the Cocker Spaniel breed was bred in the British Isles, Spain is considered their homeland. It is believed that it was from there that the ancestors of modern spaniels were brought to the UK, and inspired by these small but strong animals, the British created their own breed, able to hunt in any conditions.
The official recognition of the breed happened only closer to the 20th century, although even in paintings of the fifteenth century you can see cocker spaniels. Continue reading
