KimRic Cockers is a small hobby kennel devoted to health, temperament and preservation of the cocker spaniel. Kim and Rick met through dog shows after Rick gave Kim her first show cocker (Faith). Both Kim and Rick have a deep love of cockers and work hard to ensure the health and temperament of the breed. All their dogs have their hips OFA'd after the age of two and are annually eye (CERF) examined by a board certified ophthalmologist. Breeding only 1 to 2 well-planned litters per year, the dogs and cats are their "kids".
Both Kim and Rick's favorite is the brown and brown/tan color and they specialize in those colors. But as most cocker lovers, have a token buff and parti color in the house. Their dogs are raised in the house and not in a kennel situation. Cockers should be a part of the family and not treated as kennel dogs.
Rick got his start in cockers 15 years ago and bred and showed his dogs under the Ribo prefix. Retiring from showing in 2003, he is now an AKC licensed judge for Cocker Spaniels and Junior Showmanship. Rick was past President of the Suncoast Cocker Spaniel club where he held positions of Show Chairman, Show Secretary and various other positions. He is also a member of the American Spaniel Club.
Kim started off volunteering for Pet Aid League in South Florida an organization that believes in spaying and neutering pets for a minimal cost. That led to her active involvement in rescue work with the Cocker Spaniel Club of Southeast Florida. After a year of rescue the show bug completely caught her by surprise. She was at a show and saw her first brown cocker, it was love at first sight! She went to Rick who was the only breeder of browns in Florida at that time. He was gracious of enough to mentor and befriend her. The rest as they say is history. Kim remains active in showing their dogs.
